The Mull Highland Games is entirely run by volunteers and we need your help to keep it going.
If you can:
• Help set up and take down the tents
• Bake or make sandwiches
• Help in the bar or tea tent
• Take a turn on the barbecue
• Take photographs for our website and social media
• Or a number of other things
Please contact us on Facebook or speak directly to one of the committee members if you know us.
The Volunteering Schedule
There is a lot to do, but many hands make light work. If you can support us with any of the following activities, even if it's only for an hour, you will be making a big difference to the Games and helping preserve our heritage.
For some of the events we ask that you liaise with the committee in advance (please message us via Facebook) to coordinate, but for many of them all we need is for you to turn up at the times indicated, especially setting up and taking down the tents before and after the Games.
January
We held a small social event to get the volunteers together, lay out plans for the year ahead and help everyone get to know one another. We are looking to hold a similar event in January 2024 to thank everyone who supports us this year.
Monday 17th July
We will need some help preparing for the Games but please liaise with the committee if you are interested in helping on the Monday. We have set up a whatsapp group to coordinate so please send a message to our Facebook page with your mobile number if you would like to be added.
Tuesday 18th July (8am - 10pm)
We could use as much help as possible for putting up the tents and preparing other items ahead of the Games on the Tuesday. Please come up to the Games field for as little or as much time as you can. Your help will be very much appreciated at any time of the day!
Wednesday 19th July (8am - 10pm)
Again, we could use as much help as possible for putting up the tents and preparing other aspects of the Games on the day before they take place. Please come up to the Games field for as little or as much time as you can at any time during the day. Your help will be very much appreciated!
We will require specific assistance on Wednesday setting up the tea tent on the Games Field.
We will also require assistance preparing food such as sandwiches at the Fire Station on Breadalbane Street.
We are also always welcome to donations of home baking, which you can drop off at the Fire Station on Wednesday afternoon, or at the tea tent on Thursday morning.
Thursday 20th July (from 8am)
The big day! This is when we could really use help for things like working at the bar or tea tent, manning the gate or taking a turn on the barbecue. Even if you can only spare an hour, you could still make a huge difference, even just helping relieve someone for lunch, moving stock from a car to a tent or helping remove rubbish bags, it will all make a difference!
At the end of the day, there will be socialising to be had in the town (and some of us could use a lie down) but before that can take place we could ALWAYS use help taking down the tents and bringing equipment back to the shed when the main activities are over.
Friday 21st July (from 9am)
The Games might be over but we could still use as much assistance as possible from 9am onwards to clear away any remaining items from the field, sort out equipment and organise the Games shed. The field needs to be cleared by 5pm for Tobermory Golf Club.
The following week
After a very much deserved rest, there will still be additional tasks to undertake, such as cleaning the tents and reviewing the inventory of equipment to make sure everything is properly stored and ready for the following year.
If you think you might be able to help us at any point in the above schedule, even if just for an hour, please contact us on Facebook or speak directly to one of the committee members.
Thank you!
