Background

For the Mull Highland Games Art Prize and the Highland Art Prize you are all invited to enter a painting, photo, collage or other 2D work and/or any three-dimensional work in any medium.

The prize categories are:

  • 2 dimensional (open)
  • 2 dimensional (under 18s)
  • 3 dimensional (open)
  • 3 dimensional (under 18s.)

If you are interested in entering please contact alex@forrester.org.uk for details or call Alex on 07951 575 088.

This is a prize we started in 2021 and we hope this year to include all the artists on the island and give everyone the opportunity to showcase their work.

All artworks entered will be hung in the Western Isles Hotel during the week of the Mull Highland Games (17th – 21st July.)

The artists receiving the prizes will be selected during that week by an independent judge and will each receive a cheque for £200.

This is a celebratory year for the Mull Highland Games, 150 years since it was first held and 100 years since the games were re-started after the First World War and we’re hoping that all the artists who make work on Mull and Iona will be represented.

Up to five of the two dimensional artworks entered for the Mull Highland Games Art Prize will also be selected by the judge for submission to the Highland Art Prize.

The Mull Highland Games is one of 15 or so organisations across Scotland entitled to submit works to the Highland Art Prize.  The recipient of the Highland Art Prize receives £500 and also has the opportunity to mount an exhibition during 2024 in a leading gallery in Glasgow.

The 2022 Highland Art Prize was won by Tobermory-based artist David Page who will as a result be exhibiting at the Briggait in Glasgow later this year.

All works entered should have been completed in the last year.

There is no entry fee or hanging fee for either exhibition and it will be up to you whether you want to sell in either exhibition.

The work can be on any subject and in any medium although neither photographic work nor three-dimensional work will be eligible for the Highland Art Prize (we are working with the Highland Art Prize organisers to include these in future years!)

Otherwise, please watch this space and follow us on Facebook for announcements on any further art related activities and competition information.
